5.  This Province has reason to be gratified with the results of the final examina-
tions of 1911 of the Belgachia Veterinary College. The first student in order of merit
in the whole College is a Muhammadan of Sylhet, the 5th and 13th are Muhammadans
of the Assam Valley. Out of the 35 students in the list 15 come from this Pro-
vince. Another very satisfactory point is that during the past year there were no less
than 27 private students from Eastern Bengal and Assam in the College.

6.  The most urgent need of the Department at present is adequate accommodation
for the headquarters at Dacca, and particularly for a laboratory and hospital. Several
suitable sites have been chosen, but ultimately found to be unavailable, and I regret
to say that the difficulty still remains. The construction of a hospital at Silchar is
being commenced and a site has been acquired for a hospital at Shillong.

A considerable portion of the progress achieved and the satisfactory work done
by the officers of the Veterinary Department is due to the activity and capacity of
Mr. Harris. I feel bound also to add my commendation to that of the Superintendent
for the excellent work done by Veterinary Assistants S. Ghosh at Dacca and P.
Mukherji at Shillong.

                                                                         Your most obedient Servant,
                                                                                    S. G. HART,

Director, Department of Agriculture, Eastern Bengal and Assam.
