The student in Class C did not appear at the examination on account of illness.

7.  There was only one private student in Class A during the year. Ho failed in.
the examination.

8.  During the year a nalband was deputed at the cost of the Local Administra-
tion to the Bengal Veterinary College to undergo a course of training in horse-shoeing
for a period of 4 months from the 29th December 1918. On his return he will work
in Shillong.

                  PART II.—TREATMENT OF DISEASES.

9.  Table II shows the approximate number of deaths from contagions diseases
reported during the year. The most salient feature of the report is that there has
been a general decrease in the mortality from contagious diseases, as compared with
that of the previous year. It was specially low amongst bovines.

10.  The total mortality reported from contagious diseases as compared with the
previous two years is as follows : —

These figures are furnished by the District Officers and have been checked by
the Veterinary Assistants as far as possible.

                                          EQUINES.

11.   Glanders.—Some cases of suspected glanders were tested during the year,
but on test they proved not to be glanders.

There was one death reported from Khasi and Jaintia Hills. This case died
before the animal could be put on mallein test.

12.  Anthrax.—Forty deaths were reported from 6 districts during the year
against 35 deaths from 7 districts in the previous year. Diagnosis was confirmed
by microscopical examination in all the districts.

13.  Surra.—There were 10 deaths reported from Sylhet district. Diagnosis was
confirmed by microscopical examination in 3 cases. In the previous year 13 deaths
were reported from 4 districts.

14Dourine and Epizoolic Lymphangitis.—No such diseases were reported during
the year.

15.   Other contagious diseases.—The number of deaths from other contagious
diseases was 130 against Go in the previous year, but no details were available.

                                          BOVINES.

16. Rinderpest.—During the year 7,239 deaths were reported from 10 districts.
In the previous year 29,808 deaths were reported from 11 districts. The biggest
mortality was reported from Sibsagar district.
