9.  There was one private student in the 2nd year class ; he passed his class
examination.

10.  As the cadre of the Department is almost completed the Local Administra-
tion has decided not to send any stipendiaries to the College during the year 1920-21.

11.  The number of graduates passed out from the College at the end of last year
was eight, of which five have joined the Department and one was allowed to leave
the province as he was not a native of the province. The remaining two graduates
were not employed during the year owing to certain Local Boards refusing to engage
a second Veterinary Assistant.

                          PART II.—TREATMENT OF DISEASES.

12.  Table II shows the approximate number of deaths from contagious diseases
reported during the year. Reports have been received from all districts.

13.  The total mortality reported from contagious diseases as compared with the
previous two years is as follows :—

These figures are supplied by the District Officers and have been checked by the
Veterinary Assistants as far as possible.

                                                EQUINES.

14.   Glanders.—One case of Glanders was reported during the year against nil
in the previous year. The horse was destroyed and compensation given.

15.  Anthrax,.—Eighty-two deaths were reported from 7 districts during the year
against 40 deaths from 6 districts in the previous year. Diagnosis was confirmed in
Cachar, Darrang, Sibsagar, and Lakhimpur.

16.  Surra.—This disease was confirmed in 5 districts and 63 deaths were
reported. In the previous year 10 deaths were reported from one district.

There was an extensive outbreak of Surra under Srimangal Police station in
Maulvibazar subdivision of Sylhet district. Fifty three cases were detected and
either died or were destroyed. The seat of outbreak was inspected by the officiating
Superintendent. Diagnosis of all the cases were confirmed microscopically.
