             CIVIL VETERINARY DEPARTMENT, ASSAM,

                                       FOR THE YEAR,
                                            1920-21.

                PREFACE—GENERAL ADMINISTRATION.

During the year under report I continued to hold charge of the post of Superin-
tendent, Civil Veterinary Department, Assam. I was on tour for 170 days and travelled
1,693 miles by road, 3,150 miles by rail and 750 miles by steamer.

        2.  The following Hospitals and Dispensaries were inspected by me :—

Gauhati four times, Shillong three times, Silchar, Sylhet, Karimganj Kohima,
Dhubri, Nalbari, Tezpur, Behali, Mangaldai, Nowgong, Missa, Dibrugarh,
Tinsukia, North Lakhimpur once each.

The work of the Veterinary Inspectors was also inspected by me.

        3.  I attended a conference regarding the milk supply at Shillong.

        4.  Under instructions from the Chief Commissioner and at the request of His
Highness the Maharaja of Manipur I visited Manipur during the year in connection
with a severe outbreak of cattle-disease there. I have subsequently been appointed
Veterinary Adviser to the Manipur Durbar and permitted to visit Manipur whenever
occasion demands.

        5.  I attended the Bengal Veterinary College as a member of the Board of
Examiners.

        6.  In the Laboratory 212 specimens of various kinds were examined of which
64 were diagnosed as Anthrax, 32 Hæmorrhagic Septicæmia and 17 Surra. In the
previous year 311 specimens were examined.

                          PART I.—VETERINARY INSTRUCTION.

        7.  During the year six Government stipendiaries attended the College. They
were distributed as follows :—
