                     CIVIL VETERINARY DEPARTMENT, ASSAM,

                                               1921-22.

                        PREFACE-GENERAL ADMINISTRATION.

During the year under report I held charge of the post of Superintendent, Civil
Veterinary Department, Assam. I was on tour for 143 days and travelled 3,971 miles
by rail, 992 miles by steamer and 699 miles by road,

    2. The following hospitals and dispensaries were inspected by me :—

Gauhati three times, Shillong, Nalbari, Tezpur and Dibrugarh twice, Goalpara,
Abhoyapuri, Bilashipara, Barpeta, Patacharkuchi, Behali, Tangla, Jorhat, Mariani,
Nazira, Golaghat, Badlipar, Tinsukia and North Lakhimpur once each.

The work of the Veterinary Inspectors of Gauhati and Dibrugarh were inspected
by me.

    3.I attended the Bengal Veterinary College as a member of the Board of
Examiners.

    4. Babu Guru Prasanna Sen has been promoted from the post of Veterinary
Inspector to the post of Deputy Superintendent, Civil Veterinary Department, Assam,
on probation with effect from 4th May 1921. He was on tour for 81 days and travell-
ed 2,655 miles by rail, 285 miles by steamer and 549 miles by road.

    5.  The following dispensaries and Assistants were inspected by him :—

Silchar and Sylhet three times, Hailakandi, Patharkandi, Maulvibazar, Srimang-
al, Habiganj, Sunamganj twice each, Narsingpur, Karimganj, Jagannathpur once
each.

The work of the Veterinary Inspector, Silchar, was also inspected by him.

    6.  In the Laboratory 420 specimens of various kinds were examined of which 62
were diagnosed as Surra, 26 Anthrax and 6 Hæmorrhagic Septicaemia. In the pre
vious year 212 specimens were examined.
