            CIVIL VETERINARY DEPARTMENT, ASSAM,

                                    FOR THE YEAR

                                         1924-25.

            PREFACE—GENERAL ADMINISTRATION.

During the year under report I continued to hold charge of the post of
Superintendent, Civil Veterinary Department, Assam.

2.  I was on tour for 137 days and travelled 1,657 miles by road and boat,
2,015 miles by rail and 338 miles by steamer.

3.  The following hospitals and dispensaries were inspected by me during the
year:—

Shillong and Gauhati three times, Nalbari, Patacharkuchi, Barpeta, Dhubri,
Goalpara, Mangaldai, Tangla, Tezpur, Behali, Tinsukia, Silchar, Narsingpur, Haila-
kandi, Karimganj, Sylhet, Sunamganj, Habiganj and Kulaura once. During these
inspections the practical work of the Assistants was carefully observed and instruc-
tion and advice given. The work of the Veterinary Inspectors of Gauhati, Silchar
and Dibrugarh was inspected by me. The work done by the Veterinary Assistant,
Bilashipara, on tour and also by the Staff and Reserve Veterinary Assistants was
also inspected.

4.  I regret I was not able to attend the Bengal Veterinary College as a member
of the Board of Examiners owing to pressure of important work.

5.  In the Laboratory at headquarters 528 specimens of various kinds were
examined of which 55 were diagnosed as Anthrax, 12 Hæmorrhagic Septicæmia,
13 Surra. The remainder were for examination for other blood, skin, intestinal
parasites, etc. In the previous year 466 specimens were examined of which 58 were
Anthrax, 21 Hæmorrhagie Septicæmia, and 9 Surra.

6. During the year six Government stipendiaries attended the Bengal Veterinary
College. They were distributed as follows :—
