8.  There was one private student from Assam in the first year class and he has
been promoted to the second year class.

9.  In the previous year one student graduated from the College and joined the
Department during the year under report. The number of Graduates allotted to
Assam during 1924-25 was two but they did not actually join the Department till
after the close of the year.

                  PART II.—TREATMENT OF DISEASES.

10.  Table II shows the approximate number of deaths from contagious diseases
reported during the year. Reports have been received from all the districts.

11.  The total mortality reported from contagious diseases as compared with the
previous two years is as follows :—

The figures are supplied by the District Officers and checked by the Veterinary
Assistants as far as possible.

                                                         EQUINES.

12.   Glanders.—There was no report of Glanders during the year. For two years
no case of this disease has been seen.

13.  Anthrax.—Forty-six deaths were reported from this disease from 8 districts.
The disease was confirmed by microscopical examination in all the districts. In the
previous year there were 101 deaths from 7 districts.

14.  Surra.—Twenty-seven deaths were reported from this disease from 5 districts
against 39 deaths from 6 districts in the previous year.

15.  Dourine.—No case of this disease has been observed during the year.

16.  Epizootic Lymphangitis.—There has been an outbreak of Epizootic Lymphan-
gitis amongst the hackney carriage horses in Gauhati. Six cases have been detected
during the year all of which were destroyed. A sum of Rs. 140 being half the value
has been paid as compensation to the owners of the animals destroyed.

17.  Other contagious diseases.—One hundred and twenty-seven deaths were
recorded during the year against 379 in the previous year. No further details are
