43. A brief account of the work performed by the Veterinary Inspectors is given
below:—

(1)  Babu Satya Charan Mukherjee, Veterinary Inspector, Dibrugarh Circle, was
on tour for 139 days. He travelled 2,668 miles by rail, 1,451 miles by road and 871
miles by steamer and boat. He visited and re-visited 157 villages and Tea Estates in
connection with the inspection of the work of the Veterinary Assistants, the investiga-
tion of disease and enquiry into the result of inoculations.

He inspected the following dispensaries:—

Dibrugarh and Tinsukia each four times; Nazira, Sibsagar, Mariani, Jorhat,
Golaghat and Badlipar thrice; North Lakhimpur and Behali twice ; Dhakuakhana
and Kohima once.

He visited the Dibrugarh and Nazira Pinjrapoles and attended the Dibrugarh
Agricultural Exhibition. He also attended and supervised the Veterinary Camp
hospital at Dibrugarh during the Camp of Exercise of the Assam Valley Light
Horse.

(2)   Babu Srish Chandra Ghosh, Veterinary Inspector, Silchar Circle, was on
tour for 99 days and visited 51 villages and Tea Estates in connection with inspection
work and investigation of epidemics. He travelled 1,689 miles by rail, 285 miles
by steamer and 811 miles by road and boat. He was on leave for one month, no
substitute being appointed. The following hospitals and dispensaries were inspect-
ed by him:—

Silchar Government Hospital, Dispensaries at Silchar, Palonghat, Hailakandi
and Maulvi Bazar thrice each ; Karimganj, Sylhet, Sunamganj, Kulaura and Habi-
ganj twice; Patharkandi and Jagannathpur once. He also inspected the work
of the Staff and Reserve Veterinary Assistants at Silchar. The work of the Field
Veterinary Hospital opened during the Camp of Exercise of the Surma Valley Light
Horse at Silchar was also supervised by him. He attended the Industrial and
Agricultural Exhibitions held at Sylhet and Hailakandi and acted as a member
of the Judge's Committee in cattle shows of those places. He examined 102 speci-
mens microscopically and took measures to prevent the spread of Surra from the
neighbouring territory of Manipur.

(3)   Babu Guru Prasanna Sen, Veterinary Inspector, Gauhati Circle, held charge
of the Circle only for 4 months. He was deputed for training at the Imperial
Institute of Veterinary Research at Muktesar for 3 months and was on leave for 5
months. During the period he held charge of the Circle he was on tour for 48 days,
and travelled 779 miles by rail, 141 miles by steamer and 260 miles by road and
boat. He visited 23 villages in connection with the inspection of the work of the
Veterinary Assistants, investigation of diseases and enquiry into the result of inocula-
tions.

The following dispensaries were inspected by him:—

Gauhati hospital twice ; dispensaries at Gauhati, Goalpara, Abhoyapuri, Dhubri,
Bilashipara, Barpeta, Patacharkuchi, Nalbari, Tangla, Mangaldai and Nowgong
once ; Misa twice. The dispensary under the Dhubri Local Board was also visited
by him once. While at headquarters he worked in the Laboratory and attended
the Gauhati hospital and gave instruction to the Assistants.

(4)  Babu Hem Chandra Sen, Staff Veterinary Assistant, Gauhati, officiated
as Veterinary Inspector, Gauhati Circle, from 22nd April 1925 to 21st May 1925,
from 25th May 1925 to 8th September 1925 and from 2nd January 1926 to 31st
March 1926. During those periods he was on tour for 83 days and visited 69 villages
and Tea Estates in connection with the inspection of the work of the Veterinary
Assistants, attending outbreaks and in carrying out experimental treatments. He
travelled 1,332 miles by rail, 669 miles by steamer and 847 miles by road and boat.
He inspected the following hospitals and dispensaries :—

Hospitals at Gauhati and Shillong once each ; dispensaries at Tezpur, Gauhati,
Dhubri and Dhubri Local Board twice ; Bilashipara, Nalbari, Barpeta, Patacharkuchi,
Abhoyapuri, Tangla, Nowgong and Goalpara once. He inspected the breeding
bulls of the Nowgong Municipality once and attended the cattle show at Gauripur.

44. The number of Reserve Veterinary Assistants was 9. Two were employed
in charge of the Government Veterinary Hospitals at Gauhati and Silchar. The
rest were employed on leave vacancies and on deputation to supplement the local
staff.
