22.   Teaching and Subordinate Staff.—Mr. Malkani continued to
teach medicine in the absence of a Profossor of Medicine. The post of
Lecturer in Anatomy which remained vacant up to the 30th June 1940,
was filled temporarily by Maulavi M. A. Rahim, Assistant-in-Charge.
Mr S I. H. Akbari, Lecturer in Materia Medica and Therapeutics, died
on the 10th June 1940. As an interim arrangement Babu J. N.
Mukherji, an officer of the Subordinate Veterinary Service, was appointed a
temporary Lecturer till 8th November 1940, when Mr. V. Srinivasan was
appointed to the post on probation.

The post of Assistant to the Professor of Hygiene, which was held
in abeyance in 1932, was restored during the year. A new post of
Assistant to the Lecturer in Biology and Chemistry was also created
during the year.

       Table XV shows the details of the staff employed.

23.   Admission of Students.—The 11th session of the College started
on the 1st of July 1940. 41 new students were admitted as
compared with 49 of the previous year and 98 old students continued
their studies bringing the total to 139 at the start of the session. Four
newly admitted and three old students left the College during the session.
One United Provinces Government stipendiary secured Viceroy's
Commission in the Royal Indian Army Service Corps and left. The new
admissions included 33 stipendiaries and 8 non-stipendiaries, from Bihar,
United Provinces, Orissa, Madras, Hyderabad State, Jodhpur State and
Rewa State.

Revision class.—Five out of eleven plucked students of class ' A '
joined the revision class in January 1941, on payment of a cosolidated fee
of Rs. 35 each, but only two passed the Annual Examination.

The number of students on the roll at the end of the session was 139
(against 137 of the previous year) as specified below :—

Bihar 51, United Provinces 56, Orissa 7, North-West Frontier
Province 9, Jodhpur 3, Punjab 2, Nepal 1, Jammu and Kashmir 3,
Central Provinces 1, Bengal 1, Madras 1, Hyderabad 3, Rewa 1.
