            CHAPTER III.-CONTAGIOUS DISEASES IN
                                            ANIMALS.

Rinderpest—This disease was prevalent throughout the year in
many districts of the province. Eleven districts were entirely free
from this disease, viz., Akyab, Kyaukpyu, Sandoway, Arakan Hill
Tracts, Tavoy, Mergui, Henzada, Prome, Tharrawaddy, Upper
Chindwin and Minbu.

The heaviest mortality from this disease was recorded from the
following districts :—Thatôn (8,815), Amherst (5,207), Hanthawaddy
(1,169), Myitkyina (1,077), Katha (619), Meiktila (611), Salween (574),
Myingyan (522) and Bassein (511). The death-rate in these nine
