    Civil Veterinary Department, Burma

            For the year ending the 31st March 1938.

    CHAPTER I.—ORGANIZATION AND STAFF.

The organization of the work of the Department remained unchanged
during the year.

Headquarters.—Mr. D. T. Mitchell, M.R.C.V.S., was in charge as
Director from the beginning of the year until his departure for leave
on November 17th, 1937. He resumed charge on his return on 8th
February 1938.

During his absence Captain S. R. Rippon, M.R.C.V.S., I.V.S., Deputy
Director, officiated in the post.

Field Staff.—The Lower Burma Charge was under the direction of
Captain S. R. Rippon, M.R.C.V.S., I.V.S., Deputy Director, during the
year except for the period during which he officiated as Director and
from the 1st March 1938 to the end of the year, when he was on
overseas leave. U Nyan Kyaw, G.B.V.C., Veterinary Superintendent,
held charge of the duties of the post of Deputy Director, Lower Burma
Charge, from November 16th, 1937, to February 9th, 1938, and again
from 28th February 1938 to 31st March 1938.

The staff in the Lower Burma Charge consisted of one Deputy
Director, three Veterinary Superintendents in Circle charges, thirteen
Veterinary Inspectors in Districts, and 67 Veterinary Assistants in
Townships.

U Pe Than, G.B.V.C., A.T.M., Deputy Director, remained in control
of the Upper Burma Charge during the year. His staff consisted of
three Veterinary Superintendents, fourteen Veterinary Inspectors, and
seventy-two Veterinary Assistants.

Arakan Circle.—This circle, which is under the immediate control
of the Director, was in charge of U Aung Tun U, G.B.V.C., Veterinary
Superintendent, up to 1st November 1937, when he was transferred to
South-Western Circle, vice U Saw Hla U, G.B.V.C., Veterinary
Superintendent, transferred to Arakan. This latter officer remained in
charge of the Arakan Circle to the end of the year.
