The total of receipts for the treatment of animals was Rs. 1,556-8.

3. Veterinary Dispensary at the Rural Reconstruction Unit, Tatkôn.
This continued under the charge of a Veterinary Inspector until 8th
February 1941, on which date it was placed in the charge of a New
Grade Veterinary Assistant.

The 2,520 cases not seen are included in the totals of new cases and
returns for treatment, and the average number of cases treated at the
dispensary is still less than two per day. The majority of the patients
were cattle, most of the cases treated being as usual wounds, digestive
disorders, and worms. There were also some cases of foot and mouth
disease.

                          CHAPTER III.—CONTAGIOUS DISEASES OF ANIMALS.

                                   INCIDENCE OF DISEASE AND MORTALITY.

1. Rinderpest.—4,293 deaths were caused by this disease, compared
with 1,673 last year, 15 out of 37 districts being affected. The bulk of
the mortality occurred in Katha (1,683), Shwebo (1,369) and Myitkyina
(442). Full statistics will be found in the appendices to this Report.

Hæmorrhagic Scpticæmia.—Only 5 districts escaped outbreaks, the
total mortality being 5,289 compared with 4,293 last year. The majority
of the deaths occurred in Bassein (626), Myitkyina (535), Myaungmya
(489), Akyab (468), Insein (369), Pyapôn (340) and Toungoo (306).

Anthrax.—This disease broke out in 30 out of 37 districts,
causing 1,105 deaths as against 1,567 last year. Akyab (160),
Tharrawaddy (110), Bassein (104), Toungoo (83), Insein (66), Thatôn
(63), Henzada (60), Maubin (49), Thayelmyo (46), and Katha (43) were
the districts most severely affected by outbreaks.
