99. Fowl Cholera.—Out of 35 cases of fowl cholera
reported in Monghyr and Giridih subdivision, 24 died and 11
were cured with internal administration of 1 per cent. solution
of Hydrochloric Acid.

100. Johne's Disease.—This disease was detected among the
Monghyr Dairy herd in 1929-30. The whole herd numbering
211 was tested with double intradermal injections with the
result that 15 animals reacted and 11 were considered suspicious
reactors. One bullock indicated a positive reaction for tuber-
culosis. Of the 15 reactors, 2 died while segregated, and 12
were taken over by the authorities of the Imperial Institute
of Veterinary Research, Muktesar, for experimental purposes.

101.  Bovine Contagious Abortion.—The disease was preva-
lent among the Monghyr Dairy animals since 1929-30. It was,
however, effectively controlled during the year under report by
vaccination of the remaining cows, 40 in number, with bovine
contagious abortion vaccine.

102.  Contagious catarrh among equines.—This disease broke
out in Patna town during the cold season. It was highly
contagious, ran a protracted course and was attended with the
usual characteristic symptoms. It also appeared among the
horses of the Military Mounted Police at Arrah affecting all the
animals. There were no deaths.

103. Treatment of rinderpest cases with intravenous injection
of Lugol's solution.
—This mode was adopted in several cases
with favourable results.

                           ORISSA RANGE.

104.  Bovine Tuberculosis.—One case was detected on
microscopical examination among the municipal bullocks at
Puri. 20 in-contact bullocks were treated with tuberculin but
there was no reaction.

105. Johne's Disease.—Two cows of the Kanke herd were
affected with this disease. Both the animals died after showing
typical clinical symptoms of the disease. The entire herd com-
prising 248 animals was then tested. 27 showed a positive
reaction.

In addition to the above, experimental treatment was
adopted by the staff in the districts with satisfactory results for
the following diseases.

106. Nasal Granuloma.—92 cases were treated out of which
only two died.
