28. Mr. Sahai has been doing invaluable work in
furtherance of the cause of the veterinary profession in this
province, and has fully justified his appointment.

                                        CHAPTER II.

                                Veterinary Instruction.

                    Bihar and Orissa Veterinary College.

29.  Charge.—The fifth session of the Bihar and Orissa
Veterinary College commenced from the 2nd July 1934 (the
1st being a Sunday). All the buildings damaged by the
earthquake of January 1934 were thoroughly repaired before
the commencement of the session.

30. Mr. R. T. Davis, I.V.S., held charge of the college for
five months, i.e. from 1st to 11th April 1934 and again, from 14th
November 1934 to 31st March 1935, while Mr. P. G. Malkani,
M.R.C.V.S., the Professor of Pathology and Bacteriology acted
as Principal of the College during the intervening period.

31. In addition to his duties as Principal and Professor
of Medicine, Mr. Davis, while at the College, acted as Sec-
retary to the College Governing Body, and supervised the
work of the Government Cattle Breeding and Dairy Farm,
Patna. He also acted as a member of the Board of Examiners
for the session 1934-35, and of the Bihar and Orissa Agricul-
tural Research Committee. During the absence on deputation
of Mr. Davis as Director, Mr. Malkani taught medicine to class
" C " students, and also acted as Secretary to the Governing
Body. He was also a member of the Bihar and Orissa Agri-
cultural Research Committee throughout the year.

32. Teaching and subordinate staff.—There was no
change in the professional and other teaching staff of the
College. The question of renewal of contracts of the four
professors, viz. Messrs. P. G. Malkani, J. M. Lahiri, G. N.
Ray Chaudhuri and Dr. A. C. Chaudhuri having come up
for consideration, Government were pleased to extend the
terms of their appointments up to the 30th April 1936 subject
to certain conditions. All these officers have agreed to
serve up to that date on the conditions specified.

33. As regards changes in the subordinate staff, the first
Laboratory Assistant, Babu P. Panda, the second Laboratory
Assistant, Babu Gulzar Prashad and the Hospital Surgeon.
Babu B. M. Prashad were transferred to the department and
their places at the College were filled respectively by three
other officers, viz. by Laboratory Assistant, Babu J. N.
Mukharji, touring veterinary assistant surgeon, Maulavi
M. Muzaffar, and veterinary graduate Babu S. K. Banarji
