Proceedings of a Meeting held on the 24th March 1896 at Sitamarhi in connection with the
                                              Sitamarhi Méla Cattle Show.

The following gentlemen were present:—

1.     C. L. S. Russell, Esq., Subdivisional Officer, Sitamarhi.

2.     Captain W. D. Gunn, Superintendent, Civil Veterinary Department, Bengal.

3.    H. E. Crowdy, Esq., Manager, Belsund Indigo Concern.

4.     E. H. Stevens, Esq., Manager, Syedpur Indigo Concern.

5.     Mahunth Bhagavat Dass of Sitamarhi.

6.    Raja Piruddin Khan of Parsouni.

7.    Babu Argun Das, Merchant, Sitamarhi.

The following resolutions were passed:—

(1)   That a considerable sum of money having this year been subscribed by various
gentlemen for the purpose of encouraging the breeding of a better class of cattle in the
Sitamarhi subdivision, it is desirable that a society should be formed for the purpose of
administering the fund and giving permanency to the movement.

Proposed by Mr. C. L. S. Russell, seconded by Captain Gunn—

(2)   That the society be called the Sitamarhi Cattle Improvement Society, and that the
following gentlemen, having already showed their interest in the matter by subscribing towards
the object, bo requested to bo members of the Society, and that the members should have
power to add to their number as may seem advisable.

(3)   That a sum of Rs. 120 out of the funds of the Society bo added to the Rs. 200,
the promise of which grant from Government was verbally communicated to the meeting
by Captain Gunn for the purpose of granting prizes for exhibits at a cattle show to be held
the same day; that pending receipt of the grant from Government, the whole amount of
Rs. 320 be advanced from the funds of the Society.

Proposed by Mr. C. L. Russell, seconded by Mr. Crowdy—

(4)   That from the funds of the Society two Hissar bulls should be purchased at an
estimated cost of Rs. 250 each, including charges of delivery, as recommended by Captain
Gunn.

Proposed by Captain Gunn, seconded by Mr. Crowdy—

(5)     That one of these bulls be kept at Sitamarhi and the other at Belsund Factory;
Mr. Crowdy, the Manager, having offered to take charge of it.

Proposed by Captain Gunn, seconded by Mr. C. L. S. Russell—

(6)   That the Superintendent of Bengal Veterinary Department be requested to inform
the Society whether it is possible to obtain Brahmini bulls of a better class from the North-
Western Provinces to be turned loose in the subdivision; and if so, that ho be requested to
inform the Society of the cost of carriage and other charges involved.

Proposed by Mr. E. II. Stevens, seconded by the Mahunth of Sitamarhi—

(7)   That a cattle show be held annually at the time of Mam Naumis Méla, and that
prizes be awarded out of the funds of the Society for such classes as the Society may
determine.

Proposed by Mr. C. L. S. Russell, seconded by Babu Bilas Ram—

(8)  That the Subdivisional Officer for the time being be requested to be Secretary and
Treasurer of the Society.
