What is the total land area of the subdivision (cultivated, grazing,
and sterile, separately, if practicable) ?

25 square miles.

Is any land available on a Government estate or otherwise, and if so,
on what estate, which is suited for cattle-breeding ?

No.

How are cattle fed, whether stall-fed or grazed, or both ; and whether
any grain, &c., is allowed ?

Cattle in town and suburbs are stall-fed, being given 2 seers khesari
daily, also grass, straw, bhusa and oil-cake. In the mufassal they
are allowed to graze, and also given bhusa and straw in the evening.

Grazing is scarce.

No.

Cattle are sheltered during rains and cold weather in the mufassal :
in the town they are not sheltered, but kept in a pethin.

About 1/10th, which is sufficient.

Do the calves have all the cows' milk ; if not, how much ? ... ...

Goalas who trade in milk, butter, &c, stint their calves, and when
they are two to two and-a-half months old they begin to feed. They are
only allowed to suckle when the cows are about to be milked and to
subsist by grazing ; but dealers in bullocks allow their bull-calves to
have the whole of the cow's milk.

At what age are calves weaned, and how are they fed after weaning ?

Calves are not weaned till the cow is dry, i.e., five or six months after
birth, and then fed the same as grown-up cattle.

When two years old and over they are gelded, and put to work when
four years old.

Bulls are not sold, but bull-calves are sold to bo made Brahmini bulls.
Bull-calves are sold from Re. 1-8 to Rs. 4. Cows are sold from Rs. 10
to Rs. 30 each according to the milk they yield. Bullocks sell from
Rs. 20 to Rs. 65.
