4.     Rinderpest was very prevalent in Calcutta and its suburbs—notably
at Baranagar, Cossipore-Chitpur, Dum-Dum, Garden Reach, Bhowanipore
and Kidderpore. Two thousand seven hundred and ninety-nine cattle were
inoculated with anti-rinderpest serum.

A sum of Rs. 1,311-9-0 was realised on account of the serum used and
credited to Government.

5.     An outbreak of foot and mouth disease among the Government
slaughter animals at the Supply and Transport Lines, Hastings, was attended
to by my staff.

6.     At the instance of the Director of Public Health, Bengal, I have
arranged for the regular application of the tuberculin test to the calves used
at the Government Vaccine Depot, Calcutta.

Several calves were also tested with tuberculin at the Animal Vaccine
Depôt, Ballygunge, at the request of the Health Officer of the Corporation.

While the Presidency Remount Depot, Calcutta, remained closed from
15th June to 5th October 1920, horses arriving in the Port of Calcutta were
examined prior to their landing.

The laboratory did good and most useful work as in previous years.

2.     Brains of 114 suspected rabid animals were examined, of which num-
ber 91 proved to be rabies.

3.     Three hundred and twenty-three pathological specimens received
from the various districts of Bengal, Bihar and Orissa as also from this
College hospital were examined. Cases of anthrax, black quarter, hæmor-
rhagic septicæmia, surra, piroplasmosis, strangles, tuberculosis, demodex canis,
dipylidium caninum, sarcoma and fowl cholera were diagnosed.

4.     The following sera were despatched from the laboratory for use in
Calcutta and the districts of Bengal:—

5.     At the instance of Messrs. Landale & Clarke, several samples of
bone-meal intended for export from Calcutta to New Zealand were collected
and tested for possible contamination with anthrax or other pathogenic organ-
isms.

6.     Several surgical cases in hospital were treated with auto-vaccines
prepared at the laboratory.

7.     The Imperial Serologist, Calcutta, was supplied, on request, with
horse and buffalo blood for his work and morbid materials were supplied to
other scientific workers.

8.     Ten veterinary graduates from Assam went through a refresher
course of training for two months at the laboratory.

9.     The magic lantern of the College with slides showing specimens of
well-bred cattle and others of pathological interest were sent out to districts
for exhibition to the ryots at fairs and shows.
