53.    Babu Santosh Kumar Ghatak of French Baraset presented a good
bull to the Chinsura dispensary, and a Montgomery cross young bull was
presented by Babu Brajo Thakur of Nawabganj to the Rangpur hospital.

medium quality to the Veterinary Dispensary, Noakhali.

                                       Fairs and Shows.

54.    Tables XIII and XIV show the particulars of horse and cattle
fairs held during the year.

55.     As usual, all these were visited either by the Divisional Inspectors
or local veterinary assistants.

56.    Lantern lectures were delivered at Suri and Faridpur.

Bull-breeding and Rearing Farms and Depots.

57.     As reported in the previous years there are only two such farms in
this province, one at Kalimpong and the other at Rangpur. The former is
managed by the St. Andrew's Colonial Homes and the latter by the Agricul-
tural Department. Table IX shows the working thereof.

58.    Kalimpong.—The herd at Kalimpong consisted chiefly of Siri
cattle. A herd of Ayreshire cattle consisting of six cows and one bull, which
was presented to the farms by Sir Daniel Hamilton, arrived from home
during the latter part of the year.

59.    Rangpur.—The experiment regarding the improvement of cattle
is being conducted satisfactorily in this farm. The Hissar bull died in
September last, and two new Hissar bulls have been purchased in its place.
Thirty cross-bred heifers and 24 bull calves have been bred, of which 6 will
be ready for use and 12 heifers also within six months. In the indigenous
herd ten farm-bred heifers have grown up and they seem to be quite promis-
ing. The cross-bred stock shows a decided improvement over the deshi
stock of similar age. The average yield of milk of the cows is reported
to be increasing due to the introduction of the farm-bred heifers in
the herd.

There was an outbreak of rinderpest in the farm in April 1920, but the
disease was controlled by inoculation and segregation, one cow only died.
A serious outbreak of foot-and-mouth appeared in the farm in August 1920,
and almost all the animals suffered from it. One death occurred out of
240 animals attacked. Hæmorrhagic septicæmia also appeared in the herd
in July last, but was checked by prompt inoculation and segregation.

                        Part IV.—Subordinate Establishment.
