                                 Bengal Veterinary College.

                         Preface and General Administration.

Charge.—I held charge of the office of the Principal, Bengal
Veterinary College, the Raymond Research Laboratory and was
Controlling Officer of the Department of Epizootic Diseases of Animals
in Calcutta and its suburbs, from 1st to 16th April 1929, and again
from 17th December 1929 till the end of the year.

2.     During the remaining portion of the year, I was on leave,
and Mr. R. T. Davis, i.v.s., Vice-Principal, officiated in my absence
on leave, from 17th April to 11th September 1929, when he proceeded
on leave to the United Kingdom.

3.    Khan Sahib S. S. Ahmed remained in charge of the duties of
the Principal from 12th September to 16th December 1929.

4.     The Vice-Principalship of the College was held by—

(1)   Mr. R. T. Davis from 1st April 1929 to 16th April 1929.

(2)  Khan Sahib S. S. Ahmed from 17th April 1929 to 11th
September 1929.

(3)  Babu Debendra Kumar Sen from 12th September 1929 to 16th
December 1929.

(4)  Khan Sahib S. S. Ahmed from 17th December 1929 to 31st
March 1930.

5.     Rai Sahib Debakar Dey, Assistant Principal, on leave, retired
from the service of Government with effect from 12th August 1929.
No officer was appointed in his place during the year under report;
his executive duties having been done by the Principal and the Vice-
Principal.

                                   Veterinary Instruction.

6.     Students.—The request for admission from all parts of India
(even from outside India), including Feudatory and Native States, has
been on the increase year by year.

7.     At the beginning of the session, i.e., July 1929, 176 students
were on the rolls in the three classes, 163 prolonged their studies
throughout the session (against 168 of last year), 13 having left or
having been removed for various reasons. Forty-nine were admitted
in Class A as freshmen. They came from various countries and
provinces.
