suffering from Johne's disease; also some 30 calves of the Corporation
Vaccine Depot at Ballygunge were tested with ordinary Tuberculin,
prior to their passing as fit for the preparation of lymph.

8.     A bulletin of epizootic diseases among horses and cattle includ-
ing rabies in dogs was circulated monthly to all District Officers and
Chairmen of District Boards in Bengal; also to the Directors of Civil
Veterinary Departments in various provinces and Cantonment authori-
ties and others concerned.

9.     The Veterinary Preventive Force consisting of 12 members of
the Calcutta Police was maintained, as usual, for working of the Depart-
ment under the Glanders and Farcy Act.

10.     Prevention of Cruelty to Animals.—One Veterinary Inspector
was attached to the Chief Presidency Magistrate's Court to advise the
trying Magistrates to conduct cases coming under the Act. During
the year under report the Calcutta Society for the Prevention of Cruelty
to Animals sent 8,040 cases for trial, of which 6,311 cases were charged
for working animals for lameness or sores, etc. Of the latter, 544
cases were produced in Court for examination and 229 only were sent
to the College Infirmary for treatment. Two hundred and thirty-three
were allowed "home treatment" by the Court and 82 discharged with
warning or acquittal.
