FROM

LIEUT.-COLONEL D. P. GOIL, M.B., F.R.C.S.E., I.M.S.,
Offg. Inspector-General of Civil Hospitals, Punjab,

To

    THE SECRETARY TO GOVERNMENT, PUNJAB,
                         TRANSFERRED DEPARTMENTS.

Dated Lahore, the 25th of April, 1932.

SIR,

I HAVE the honour to forward, herewith, the
statistical tables of the Punjab Mental Hospital, Lahore,
for the year 1931, and to make the following observa-
tions :—

Statement, I Admis-
sion, discharges, etc.

1.    Population. —At the commencement of the year
1931, there were 985 patients (776
males and 209 females) under treat-
ment ; 365 cases were admitted and 27
readmitted during the year, making the total treated
during the year 1,377 (1,086 males and 291 females) as
compared with 1,392 (1,109 males and 283 females ) and
1,384 (1,104 males and 280 females) in 1930 and 1929,
respectively.

The slight drop in the population is attributed to
the fact that all the patients from Delhi were trans-
ferred to Agra last year and all new patients from Delhi
area have been sent since then direct to Agra.

2.  The total number of patients discharged from this
institution was 271, viz., 162 " cured ", 57 " improved ",
42 " not improved " and 10 " otherwise ". There has
been a slight increase in the number of cases dis-
charged as cured in 1931 as compared with the figures
for the two preceding years. The maximum number of
patients under treatment on any one night was 1,032
(796 males and 236 females).
