One insane European
transferred to Kolaba.

The European above mentioned was a sailor brought to the Civil Hospital,
Kurrachee, from one of the ships in harbour. He
was suffering from mania induced by exposure to
the sun. No improvement occurring while he was
in hospital, where he remained under treatment for nearly a fortnight, he
was sent to the Kolaba Asylum.

Mahomedans double of
Hindoos.

Of the two classes into which the bulk of the insanes are divided, it will
be observed that the Mahomedans are just double
the number of the Hindoos. This supports what I
have mentioned when speaking of the proportion in
which these two classes enter the lunatic asylum, that the dissipated
habits of the Mahomedan, and his proclivity to intoxicating drugs, seem to
render him twice as liable to insanity as the Hindoos.

Details respecting these
incomplete.

As a rule, the medical officers and subordinates have omitted to enter
into details with respect to the certainty of the
supposed insanes being really so, or only under
temporary excitement from passing causes, such as
liquor, intoxicating drugs, or family quarrels. The period and place of de-
tention are also in several instances unmentioned. These and other particu-
lars will, however, be fully supplied in next year's report.

Lunatics at Kurrachee
Dispensary.

The Assistant Surgeon, Kurrachee Dispensary, states that the 3 cases
treated by him were admitted as mania, accompani-
ed with excitement, but were not sufficiently violent
to necessitate their being put under restraint.
2 of these cases occurred in the same person admitted
a second time.

Lunatics at Rohri.

At the Rohri Dispensary, 4 cases of simple mania
are reported, 3 were cured and 1 was sent to the
lunatic asylum at Haidarabad.

Treatment.

The course pursued with insanes when brought to civil hospitals or dis-
pensaries is, in the case of such as are violent, to
place them under medical surveillance and treat-
