ANNUAL REPORT ON LUNATIC ASYLUMS.                         9

                                 ANNUAL MEDICAL REPORT

                                                  OF THE

                              LUNATIC ASYLUM, MADRAS,

                                    FOR THE YEAR 1883-84.

I HAVE the honor to submit the report on the Government Lunatic Asylum, Madras,
for the year 1883-84.

                                            I.—BUILDINGS.

Most of the buildings are out of repair and will be put in order during the
present year. Two bathing places, for males and females, have been built; a five-
foot wall screens the bathers from observation and a roof shelters them. Part of
the old wall of the female enclosure fell down and was re-built. More has fallen,
and is to be rebuilt. It will be thoroughly put in order.

The quarters for Assistant Matron and two Second-class European Attendants
have been estimated for and plans have been made and approved of. These
quarters are much needed.
