(h.) Escapes.—Two men escaped over the hedge during my absence on leave.
They were recaptured.
(i.) Suicides.—There were no suicides during the year.
(j.) Births.—There were no births during the year.
(k.) Sickness and Mortality.—There has been an improvement in the health of
the patients this year. The asylum has most fortunately escaped the cholera and
small-pox prevalent in the town of Madras.
Of the 150 admissions, 89 were received in bad health.

Of these, many were admitted in a bad state of health. Erysipelas is a common
asylum complaint.
As was noticed last year, most of the deaths were due to low wasting diseases,
to which insanes are so liable.
