I HAVE the honor to submit the report for the Waltair Lunatic Asylum for the
year 1883-84.

During the year under review 56 males and 10 females were under treatment.
Of these, 35 males and 8 females remained from the previous year.

Admissions.—There were 23 admissions, including 2 re-admissions, of which
number, 21 were males and 2 females. The 2 cases of re-admission were previously
under treatment as criminal insanes. Of the males, 4 were criminals, and the
crimes committed by them are shown in the subjoined table. The criminal who
committed grievous hurt exhibited symptoms of mental alienation while under-
going his sentence in the Central Jail, Rajahmundry.

Of the 4 criminals admitted, the cause of insanity in 1 was epilepsy and the
remaining 3 unknown; of the 19 civil patients, 2 were from gunjah and the
remaining 17 unknown.
