18                        ANNUAL REPORT ON LUNATIC ASYLUMS.

The necessary repairs and alterations to the criminal and civil cottages,
sanctioned in G.O. No. 32, Miscellaneous, dated 9th January 1884, are being
attended to.

The windows of the solitary cells have been provided with weather-boards
instead of shutters, as recommended by the Surgeon-General.

The asylum buildings are being white and color washed departmentally.

Owing to the asylum buildings undergoing repairs and alterations, it has not
been found practicable to admit as many patients as apply, but the accommodation
will be ample when the repairs, &c., are completed.

Establishment.—The pay of the establishment has been increased on the
recommendation of the Surgeon-General, vide G.O. No. 1529, dated 9th June 1883.

Conduct.—Assistant Apothecary T. A. S. Connor, appointed in July 1883,
performed his duties very satisfactorily, and is most diligent and attentive.

Head Warder.—Is zealous and attentive, and discharged his duties very
creditably. His conduct has been good.

Warders, Male and Female.—A few have worked well, but the remainder have
been careless and inattentive, needing careful supervision and punishment.

Vaccination.—Performed when necessary.

Official Visitors.—Have visited the asylum monthly.

I certify that the orders respecting the custody of poisonous drugs issued by
the Inspector-General, Indian Medical Department, dated 23rd January 1863, were
carefully carried out.
