         M.R.Ry. C. Totadri Garu, L.M.S., till 28th March 1927 when he was relieved
by M.R.Ry. K. Balasimha Rao Garu, B.A., M.B., C.M., who was the Super-
intendent till the 22nd November 1927, when Lt.-Col W. C. Gray, I.M.S.,
took charge of the appointment.

         17.   Visitors.—All the official and non-official visitors attended the
monthly meetings of the hospitals by turns except in the month of July
1927, in the Mental Hospital, Waltair. The number of non-official visitors
to the Mental Hospitals, Calicut and Waltair, was increased from three to
six. The Surgeon-General, Lt.-Col. Berkeley-Hill, I.M.S., and Dr. Bedford
Pierce, M.D., F.R.C.P., Consulting Physician to the Retreat, York, visited the
Mental Hospital, Madras, during the year. His Excellency the Governor
of Madras visited the Mental Hospital, Waltair.

         18.   Verification of the service book and stock registers.—The service
books of the establishment and stock books were verified in all the three
hospitals and found correct.

         19.  General remarks.—Proposals have been submitted to Government
for the reorganization of the staff of nurses and the non-medical staff of
the three mental hospitals as a Part II Scheme for 1928-29. The estab-
lishment of a home for mentally defective children and the introduction
of mental clinics in the teaching hospitals attached to the Medical
Colleges are under consideration. The extension of the dairy farm in
the Mental Hospital, Calicut, was sanctioned during the year.
