ation confirmed its correctness. Pneumonia at the
bases of both lungs was found. Just above the
ileo-cœcal valve, two large irregular ulcers were
present, with their edges raised, tumid, and inverted.
Their long diameter was parallel to the bowel.
The corresponding mesenteric glands were enlarged,
and of a dark red colour. Throughout the last two
feet of the iliums were numerous small, depressed
ulcers, with patches of congestion, all situated on the
"valves," and not in the "subci." No signs of tubercular
cachexia were found in any of the organs of the body.

congested papilla?, and a few enlarged mesenteric
glands were found. The rectum was ulcerated at its
lower end. Both lungs much congested; but no

This man was picked up in the streets of Dacca on the
29th December 1871, in the last stage of dementia and
disease. He was admitted into the Mitford Hospital,
and detained there till the 8th March, in the hopes
that his relatives would be induced to keep him. As
they were too poor, he was sent to the asylum. His
case was a hopeless one from the first. He was
under treatment for diarrhœa, when an attack of
pneumonia came on and killed him. In right lung a
few tubercles were present Pneumonia of both lungs,
deep congestion of small intestines, and redness of
the mucous membrane of colon and rectum were
found.
