in which European Medical skill, and European Medicines are so highly ap-
preciated as throughout the hills generally, and it is most satisfactory to find
the people of those regions generally becoming aware of the benefits of
vaccination.

8.   The acknowledgments of the Hon'ble the Lieutenant Governor
will be communicated to Mr. A. Brandreth, formerly Deputy Commissioner
Gujeranwalla; Mr. L. Saunders, Deputy Commissioner Jullundhur ; Major
McMahon, Deputy Commissioner of Delhi, and to Doctor Penny, Civil Surgeon
of Delhi, who has at all times exerted himself in a very special manner, and
with great success, in guiding and encouraging the Municipality in all sanitary
matters, as well as in all others affecting the public weal, and who is accord-
ingly especially entitled to the cordial acknowledgments of Government. His
Honor also acknowledges the services rendered by Doctor Warburton at
Jullundhur, and by Extra Assistant Commissioner Syad Hadí Hossein; by Mr.
Nulty at Sirsa; by Sub-Assistant Surgeon R. Bose at Gujeranwalla; by the
members generally of the Municipal Committees of Delhi and Jullundhur, and
especially by Sulukun Mull and Pundit Ram Ditta, two members of the latter
Committee, who co-operated most cordially.

9.   With reference to the recommendation made in para 10 of the Report,
in favor of the Native Superintendent of Vaccination Nyaz Ali Shah, it is to be
observed that the giving of rewards to officials for zealous performance of their
duties has been discountenanced by the Government, but the meritorious con-
duct of this Native Superintendent should be borne in mind by his Departmental
Officers, and should ensure him promotion on a fitting occasion.

10.   The exertions of the Tahsildar of Phillor, Nou-Bahurúdín, will be
brought to the notice of the Commissioner of Jullundhur, and that of the
Tahsildar of Hafizabad, Arjunund, and those of Zaildars Gholam Kadar, Mir
Frzl,and others, will be similarly brought to the notice of the Commissioner
of Lahore, who will be requested to cause efforts to be made to secure a more
general and cordial co-operation in the Districts of his Division.

11.   The services of Hossein Shah, resident of Bátalá, referred to in
Doctor Newton's report, will also be brought to the notice of the Commissioner
of Amritsur, as it is in marked contrast to that of the Tahsildar, Mahummed

ram, and consequently all the more commendable; the apathy and want
sal of that official calls for special notice.
