Dated LAHORE, the 13th June 1888.
SIR,

Submits Vaccination
Returns with brief remarks.

IN accordance with the instructions conveyed in Resolution of the
Government of India No. 28—1579-95, dated 15th July
1887, received with your endorsement No. 2072, dated 9th

December 1887, I have the honor to submit the Annual Vaccination Statements
for the year 1887-88, with the following brief remarks.

Surgeon-Major John
O'Neill returned from fur-
lough and Pandit Balkishen
acted as Deputy Superin-
tendent of Vaccination.

2. Surgeon-Major John O'Neill returned from furlough on the 10th
October 1887, and took over charge of the duties of Deputy
Sanitary Commissioner on that date. Pandit Bálkishen
acted as Deputy Superintendent of Vaccination from
12th April to 10th October 1887 inclusive.

Strength of Vaccination
Establishment.

3. The strength of the Vaccination Establishment consisted of 35
Native Supervisors, 40 Vaccinators of the 1st, 78 of the
2nd, and 172 of the 3rd class, in all 290 Vaccinators.
In the previous year the establishment was composed of 34 Native Supervisors,
40 Vaccinators of the 1st, 78 of the 2nd and 171 of the 3rd class.

Increase and decrease in
the establishment

4. An additional Native Supervisor was entertained for the Sub-
Division of Mardán in the Pesháwar District, four 3rd
class Vaccinators were entertained for the Hissár District,
and one 3rd class Vaccinator for the cantonment of Jullundur. In the
Gujránwála District the services of three temporary Vaccinators were dispensed
with, owing to their entertainment not having been sanctioned up to the present
by the Local Government, and in the Special Staff there was on an average one
3rd class Vaccinator less than in the previous year. So that practically there
was an increase of only one 2nd class Native Supervisor and one 3rd class
Vaccinator in the Province as compared with the numbers in the preceding year.

Cost of establishment.

5. The total cost of the establishment amounted to Rs. 67,906, or a
decrease of Rs. 1,744, which was chiefly due to the absence
on furlough of the Deputy Sanitary Commissioner.

6. The average cost for each successful case of
vaccination during the year was Re. 0-1-9 compared with
Re. 0-1-11 in the previous year.

nations performed by the
