18. The total number of one gramme tubes of vaccine issued by the
Punjab Vaccine Institute during the year was 42,030 as compared with 45,687
in the year previous, as detailed below : —

There was a decrease of 3,657 tubes when compared with the previous
year, about half of the total being due to lessened demands by the Army in
India.

Of the 42,030 tubes despatched in 1921-22 results were received in the
case of 32,285, showing that 543,657 primary and 166,647 re-vaccinations were
performed with an insertion success of 97.91 per cent. in primary and 74.83,
per cent. in re-vaccination, as against 94.94 and 73.38, respectively, in the previ-
ous year.

Training of Vacci-
nation Staff.

19. During the year under review classes for training of vaccinators
in the technique of vaccination, in the manufacture, care and preservation of
vaccine lymph, and in the principles of elementary hygiene, etc., were resumed
at the Punjab Vaccine Institute at Lahore from November to March. Nine
classes, each lasting a fortnight were held which were attended by 55 vaccina-
tors detailed from the following districts :—
