6. The average cost per successful operation was annas four and pies
ten during the year under report as compared with
annas five and pics two for the previous year and
annas three and pies four for 1920-21. The
average for the triennium under report was annas
four and pies five as compared with annas two and pies five for the preced-
ing triennium. The increase in cost has been accounted for above.
Besides this it is more apparent than real, as the cost has been calculated
on a comparatively smaller number of vaccinations performed during the
triennium under report.

In the table below, the cost per successful case of vaccination in these
provinces for the three years under review is compared with that of other
Indian provinces :—

7. The total number of persons vaccinated in 1922-23 was 1,224,252
(1,161,147 primary and 63,105 re-vaccinations as
compared with 1,208,733 in 1921-22 and 1,317,474
in 1920-21, the average for the three years being 1,260,153 as against
1,496,567 for the previous triennium. The total operations performed
during the year under report numbered 1,138,409 (1,175,212 primary and
63,197 re-vaccinations) as against 1,219,989 in 1921-22 and 1,356,981 in
1920-21, the average for the three years being 1,271,793, as against
1,510,413 for the previous triennial period. In 1922-23 the number of suc-
cessful operations amounted to 1,159,876 (1,119,849 primary and 40,027
re-vaccinations) as compared with 1,106,079 in 1921-22 and 1,207,457
in 1920-21. The average for the triennium was 1,157,804 as compared
with 1,399,304 in the preceding triennium. The percentage of successful
cases in which the results were known during the year under report amount-
ed to 98.44 in the case of primary vaccinations and 69.89 in the case of
re-vaccinations, as against 96.82 and 70.23 in 1921-22 and 97.14 and
71.34 in 1920-21, respectively. The average for the triennium under
report was 96.80 as regards primary and 70.49 as regards re-vacciuations
as compared with 96.93 and 67.69 for the preceding triennial period. The
average number of persons vaccinated by each vaccinator during the year
under report was 1,346 as compared with 1,327 in the last year and 1,470 in
the year before last, the average for the three years being 1,331 as compar-
ed with 1,634 for the preceding corresponding period. The work done
