15,256 as compared with the preceding year, the actual number of cases
inspected during the two years being, respectively, 179,223 (174,337 pri-
mary and 4,886 re-vaccinations) and 194,479 (191,060 primary and 3,419
re-vaccinations). The percentage of inspections to total number vaccinated
was 13.54 in the case of primary and 3.39 in that of re-vaccinations
as against 14.91 and 1.86 in 1925-26, respectively. Among the districts
showing a large number of inspections, Gorakhpur and Jaunpur which stood
second and third last year, beat Azamgarh and secured the first and second
positions with 18,054 and 12,076 vaccination inspections, Azamgarh getting
the third position with 11,947. Then came in order Sultanpur, Partabgarh
and Fyzabad with 11,238, 10,677 and 10,413 inspections, respectively.
The districts returning the smallest number of inspections were Aligarh
(165), Jhansi (282), Mainpuri (293), Almora (382) and Garhwal (436).
All these except Almora showed a decline as compared to the work done in
the previous year.

(b) By Assistant Superintendents of Vaccination and other in-
specting officers.
—The work under this head also showed a decrease of
19,641 in 1926-27 as compared to the year 1925-26, the figures for the
two years being 603,884 (558,312 primary and 45,572 re-vaccinations)
and 623,525 (571,959 primary and 51,566 re-vaccinations), respectively.
The percentage of inspections to total number vaccinated in 1926-27
was 43 36 for primary and 31.60 for re-vaccinations against 44.64 and
28.00, respectively, in 1925-26.

Gorakhpur having the advantage of two assistant superintendents of
vaccination, showed, as usual, the largest number of inspections (37,259)
in the year under report and was followed by Almora (29,193), Bareilly
(18,413), Basti (18,363) and Jaunpur (16,955).

A comparison of the work of this year with that of the last, however,
shows a decrease in Gorakhpur and Bareilly while an increase in other
districts.

Among the districts showing the smallest number of vaccination inspec-
tions performed the most conspicuous were Dehra Dun (5,569), Jalaun
(6,110), Budaun (7,093), Kheri (7,402) and Bara Banki (7,415). The
district superintendents of vaccination concerned will be asked to warn
the assistant superintendents of vaccination to devote particular attention
to this part of their duties.

With regard to the percentage of inspections of primary operations
done by these officials to total number vaccinated, Almora secured the
first position (83.41) among the districts returning the highest percentages
and was in order followed by Banda (80.02), Pilibhit (75.65), Dehra Dun
(75.63) and Muttra (70.95). The districts showing the lowest percentages
were Meerut (20.31), Gonda (21.64), Moradabad (21.97), Budaun (25.26)
and Allahabad (27.70).

The percentage of cases found successful to the total number inspected
was 93.39 in the case of primary and 47.09 in the case of re-vaccinations
as compared with 92.92 and 49.93, respectively, in the preceding year.
