SIR,

I have the honour to submit, herewith, for the information of the
Hon'ble the Chief Commissioner, the Annual Returns on the working of the
Vaccination Department of this Province for the year 1905-06, and to offer

the following remarks :—

Statement No. I.
Total operations.

2. The total number of persons vaccinated in the Province was 100,866
against 77,042 in the previous year, or an increase of

23,824.

Average number of oper-
ations by each vaccinator.

3. There was an average number of 31 vaccinators working during the
year and they performed an average of 3,253.74 operations
each against 2,750.64 in the previous year. This is a very
satisfactory increase.

Primary and Re-vaccina-
tions.

4. Of the total number of operations performed, 87,771 were Primary,
against 74,267 in the previous year and 13,095 were
Re-vaccinations against 2775 last year.

Percentage of successful
cases.

5. The percentage of successful cases in which the results were known
was, Primary 98.56 and Re-vaccinations 84.45, against
98.96 and 75.39, respectively, in the previous year.

Increase of operations in
all parts of Province.

6. It will be seen from the statement that there has been a marked
increase of operations in all Districts, Political Agencies
and Cantonments ; as well as in the work done by
Dispensary Staffs.

The greatest increase took place in the Hazara District where the
operations rose from 16,835 in 1904-05 to 26,417 in the year under report,
but out of the total increase, over 7,000 were re-vaccinations. In this district
the number of vaccinators was increased from three to six in April 1905.

sary Staffs.

7. There was also a large increase in the number of operations per-
formed in the Dera Ismail Khan and Kohat Districts ;
and Dispensary Staffs performed no less than 2,845
operations against only 104 in the previous year.
