30 females. Of the 585 male convicts
the majority were agriculturists, domestic
servants and labourers as will be seen by

5. Of the 615 convicts admitted in the Jail 97 were awarded simple
imprisonment.

507 were awarded rigorous imprisonment.
6 were awarded rigorous imprisonment with solitary confinement.
5 were awarded rigorous imprisonment with whipping.

6.  Previous conviction.—The number of previously convicted prisoners
admitted during the year under review was 128 as compared with 164 in the
previous year, their percentage to the total number of convicts admitted
being 20.81.

7.  Employments of convicts.—Excluding sick and convalescent from
whom occasional labour is taken the daily average number of convicts sen-
tenced to labour on working days was 208.95 of whom 12.00 were employed
as prison officers, 28.28 as prisons servants, 8.01 on gardening, 33.54 on pre-
paring articles for consumption in Jail, 113.66 as manufacturers. The daily
average number exempted from labour was 8.02.
