Jail, 105 were awarded simple imprison-
ment, 611 rigorous imprisonment, 16
rigorous imprisonment with solitary con-
finement and 8 rigorous imprisonment
with whipping.

6.  Previous conviction.—The number of previously convicted prisoners
admitted during the year under review was 164 as compared with 128 in the
previous year, their percentage to the total number of convicts admitted
being 22.16.

7.  Employment of convicts.—Excluding sick and convalescent from
whom occasional labour is taken, the daily average number of convicts sen-
tenced to labour on working days was 229.79, of whom 11.99 were employed
as prison officers, 25.05 as prison servants, 7.44 on gardening, 35.76 on pre-
paring articles for consumption in Jail and 138.74 as manufacturers. The daily
average number exempted from labour was 10.38.
