162.  There were very few cases of guinea-worm showing a great improve-
ment compared with 1917.

163.   One prisoner was released on account of ill-health.

                        QUALIFIED MEDICAL STAFF.

164.  Lieutenant-Colonel P. B. Haig, C.B., I.M.S., Agency Surgeon,
Eastern Rajputana States, was appointed on the reversion of Lieutenant-
Colonel R. C. MacWatt, C.I.E., I.M.S., to military duty, to officiate as Civil
Surgeon, Ajmer, and Chief Medical Officer in Rajputana with effect from 12th
June 1918.

165.   Major C. B. McConaghy, I.M.S., was posted as Agency Surgeon,
Eastern Rajputana States, with effect from 15th June 1918.

166.  The following officers of the Indian Medical Service held temporary
visiting charge of the Jaipur Residency Surgeoucy and Agency Surgeoncy,
Kotah and Jhalawar, from and up to the dates specified against their names in
addition to their own duties :—

1st January to 11th June 1918.

Lieutenant-Colonel P. B. Haig, C.B., I.M.S. ..

Medical Practitioner.

167. Mr. N. J. Rodrigues, L.R.C.P. &. S. (Edinburgh) was in temporary
charge of the Northern India Salt Revenue
Dispensary at Sambhar throughout the
year.

Civil Assistant Surgeons.

168. There were five Government Civil Assistant Surgeons, two employed
in the Ajmer-Merwara district, one at Jai-
pur, one at Khetri and one at Bharatpur.

Military Sub-Assistant Surgeons.

169. Eleven Military Sub-Assistant Surgeons were employed with the
Imperial Service Corps in Rajputana as
in the previous year. Of these four are
on field service in the War.

Civil Sub-Assistant Surgeons.

170. There were 127 Government Sub-Assistant Surgeons on the roll on
the 1st January 1918 and two medical
pupils passed their final examination at
the Agra Medical School in May 1918, total 129. Out of 129 Sub-Assistant
Surgeons one was transferred to the United Provinces, 3 retired on pension, 4 died
and 2 resigned. Thus at the close of the year 119 Government Sub-Assistant
Surgeons remained on the roll including 5 Sub-Assistant Surgeons transferred
temporarily to military duty on account of the War.

171. The number of Lady Doctors employed in the Native States in
Rajputana was 5 against 4 in the previous year. Lady Doctor G. Collins
was employed in the Walter Zenana Hospital at Udaipur on 30th August 1918.
