12.  The profits from jail manufactures amounted to Rs. 6,186-11-4 against Rs. 3,926-1-5
in 1921. The average earning per head of prisoners employed on Jail manufactures was Rs.
53-10-1 against Rs. 28-9-7 in 1921. Considering that a sum of Rs. 937-13 was outstanding and
money bags of the value over Rs. 1,800 remained unsold at the close of the year, the working
of the Jail factory is most satisfactory.

13.  Expenditure.—The total expenditure in guarding and maintaining the prisoners
including that incurred (1) by the Public Works Department on buildings and repairs and
(2) by the Magistrates in guarding and maintaining undertrial prisoners amounted to
Rs. 63,888-7-10. The average cost per prisoner during the year was Re. 181-0-6 against
Rs. 151-10-10 in 1921.
