                            Review on the Ajmer Jail Report for the year 1926.

Charge.—The charge of the office of the Superintendent, Central Jail was held by the
following officers :—

1.  Lt.-Col. J. W. Watson, C.I.E., I.M.S. from 1st January 1926 to 15th July 1926.
2.  Lt.-Col. G. M. Millar, I.M.S., from 16th July 1926 to 1st August 1926.
3.  Captain R. M. Khareghat, I.M.S., from 2nd August 1926 to 16th November 1926 and
4.  Lt.-Col. J. W. Watson, C.L.E., I.M.S., from the 17th November 1926 to the close of
the year.

2. At the commencement of the year there were 335 prisoners including convicts and under-
trials. There was no Civil prisoner. The member of prisoners admitted into the Jail during
the year was 1,657 against 1,751 in the previous year, of whom 764 were convicts, 879 under-
trials and 14 Civil prisoners. The number of prisoners discharged during the year under review
from all causes compared with that in the previous years is as under :—

The number of prisoners at the close of the year was 382. The daily average number of prisoners
was 344.58, i.e.,

5.  Of the 696 convicts admitted into the jail 215 were awarded simple imprisonment, 476
rigorous imprisonment, one rigorous imprisonment with solitary confinement and 4 rigorous
imprisonment with whipping.

6.  Previous Convicts.—The number of previously convicted prisoners admitted during the
year under review was 174 as against 186 in previous year, their percentage to the total number
of convicts admitted being 25.00.
