of the vesicles continue satisfactory. No opposition is offered to the practice of vaccination,
which is conducted in my presence from arm to arm, and shows a high percentage of success-
ful results. During the spring months small-pox was prevalent in the town of Shikarpoor, but
not in an epidemic form, only two cases came under treatment, both of whom recovered, and
no death from the disease has been reported by the fouzdar. Lymph continues to be
supplied to the Civil Surgeon at Jacobabad, and the Sub-Assistant Surgeon at Sukkur, when
required. From the accompanying table it will be seen that the total number vaccinated
has amounted to 1,618, the operation has been successful in 1,456 cases ; unsuccessful in 155,
and doubtful in 7. Of the unsuccessful cases only one occurred in a child under 10 years of
age, and the remaining 154 in adults. The vaccinator is correct and industrious.

There is no vaccinator employed under the Civil Surgeon. The number 28 vaccinated in
1862 were vaccinated in the month of December of same year, consequently it cannot be
considered a yearly return. 112 were vaccinated at the Civil Hospital, Kotree, during the
year 1863, viz. 10 Christains, 18 Hindoos, 84 Mussulmans, of whom 19 were under one year
old, 39 above one year. In the absence of a native vaccinator, great difficulties are experienced
in carrying on vaccination.

On receipt of the last annual vaccination report by the Principal Inspector-General, I
brought to the 'notice of the Municipality the suggestion contained in paragraph 9 of the
Government Resolution with reference to paragraph 80 of the Principal Inspector-General's
Report, and I am happy to say, it was decided that a native vaccinator for the town and talooka
of Kotree be entertained on a salary of Rupees (15) fifteen a month, to be paid by the
Municipality.
