                                Bombay Castle, 24th August 1893.

Letter from the Sanitary Commissioner for the Government of Bombay, No. 1616-B., dated
23rd June 1893—Submitting the Annual Report on Vaccination for the year 1892-93.

RESOLUTION.—During 1892-93 the vaccination establishment was increased
by the addition of three Superintendents, one Inspector, three Assistant Superin-
tendents, one clerk, 17 vaccinators and 26 peons. The Extra Superintendents
and Assistant Superintendents were employed in the Káthiáwár States and the
Inspector in the Mahi Kántha Agency. There were six additional vaccinators in
British Districts and 11 in Native States. The expenditure on the Department
and its incidence are shown in the subjoined table:—

It is observed that the figures under the heads Provincial, Cantonment and
Native States for 1891-92 do not agree with those given in last year's report.
The difference under the last-named head is perhaps fully accounted for by the
inclusion of the Káthiáwár and Pálanpur States, and the Sanitary Commissioner
should be requested to explain that under the first-named head, as the amount
is considerable. The decrease in the expenditure from Provincial Revenues
was due to the absence of one of the officers on the superior staff. Govern-
ment are glad to observe the increased expenditure by Native States.
