VACCINATION REPORT

                                                FOR THE

                                          YEAR 1901-1902.

Vaccination Report.

1. The triennial full report is submitted with the modifications laid down
in Government Resolution No. 7115 of 17th December
1901, in the General Department.

Changes amongst the super-
vising officers.

2. In all the districts except the western, changes occurred among the
supervising officers, especially in the Gujarát Regis-
tration District, and in the Western District the officer
had to hold another charge which prevented his doing
inspection.

Vaccination in Native
States.

3. The vaccination statistics of the following
Native States are shown separately in Appendix
II:—

Baroda, Idar, Bhor, Cutch, Pálanpur, Phaltan, Káthiáwár, Cambay,
Sávantvádi.

Strength of Department.

4. There was one Inspector, one Vaccinator and one peon less than in the
previous year, the post of one Inspector, Jath State,
and one 1st grade Vaccinator and a peon in the
Panch Maháls being abolished. At Aden an additional Vaccinator was engaged
for duty at Steamer Point from 1st April to 15th September 1901.

Bushire and Muskat.

5. The Dispensary Medical Officer at Bushire
and Muskat performed 798 and 75 operations,
respectively.

Central Registration District.

6. The Vaccination establishments of Bhor, Phaltan and Sávantvádi
Native States were transferred to the control of the
State authorities.

7. The children available for vaccination
amounted to 375,365, of whom 287,388 or 76.56
per cent. were protected.

Particulars of vaccine
operations.

Primary vaccination.
Statements Nos. I and III.

8. Of the total number of persons operated on,
470,517 were primarily vaccinated, 716 of them more
than once, against 586,478 with 668 excess operations
in the previous year, being a decrease of 115,961.

Of the 470,517 persons 243,587 or 51.77 per cent. were males, and 226,930
or 48.23 per cent. females; and 73.65 per cent. were under 1 year of age, 23.05
between the ages of 1 and 6 years, and above that age 3.29 per cent.

As regards caste of the above numbers, 0.83 per cent. were Christians,
71.02 Hindus, 20.19 Mussalmans, 0.33 Parsis, and 7.63 " other castes." The
ratios are a little higher this year than last for Christians, Mussalmans and Parsis,
and lower for Hindus and other castes.

Re-vaccination.

9. 50,471 persons were re-vaccinated, two of them more than once,
against 73,843 and 12 in the previous year—a
decrease of 23,372.

73.93 per cent. were males and 26.07 females, against 69.65 males and 30.45
females last year.

10. The total decrease amongst persons primarily vaccinated and re-
vaccinated amounts to 139,333.

Reasons of decrease.

11. The decrease occurs in all the districts, but
is most marked in the Central and Southern Districts,
The cause of the less work is due to a low birth-rate consequent upon the
incidence of Famine and Plague. In Sind there is also opposition to vaccination,
