Cost of Vaccination. (Appendix I, Statement II.)

18.    The cost of vaccination came to Rs. 6,18,353 against
Rs. 6,52,367 in the previous year, a decrease of Rs. 34,014. The
decrease is due to less supplementary bills, retirement of senior
vaccinators whose posts were filled up by men on less pay,
curtailment of vaccination establishment, and less travelling by
the Assistant Director of Public Health, Southern Registration
District.

The cost of each successful case of vaccination was Rs. 1-1-1
against Rs. 1-3-0 in the previous year.

Inspection work of the Assistant Directors of Public Health
and Inspectors of Sanitation and Vaccination.

19.    The Assistant Directors of Public Health inspected 20,466
vaccinated persons or 2.75 per cent. in 611 towns and villages and
they travelled 22,206 miles. The Inspectors of Sanitation and
Vaccination inspected 227,867 persons in 9,624 towns and villages
travelling 80,156 miles. Thus the results of 248,333 vaccinations
or 33.37 per cent. were checked by examination. The success rate
of primary vaccination as ascertained by the Assistant Directors of
Public Health was 98.87 and by Inspectors 98.80 per cent.

                              Compulsory Vaccination.

20.    The following table shows the progress made in the protec-
tion of infants during the year under report and the number of deaths
