Primary Vaccination (Appendix I, Statement I)

6. During the year 1927-28, 651,034 persons were primarily
vaccinated against 663,050 in the previous year. A decrease is
observed in all Collectorates of the Western and Gujarat Registra-
tion Districts.

The following table shows the number of vaccinations performed
in Western Registration District together with deaths during the
years 1923-24 to 1927-28.

The present slight drop of 2,600 has been preceded by a steady
rise since 1923-24 reaching an increase of over 14,000 in 1926-27.

In Gujarat heavy rains and floods extending over large areas put
a stop to the work of the vaccinators who were employed on Flood
Relief duties for a time.

The following table shows the number of children under one
year available for vaccination calculated (1) on the number of births
registered less deaths under one year ; and (2) on probable number
of births at 31 per 1000 of population less deaths—and the
percentages successfully vaccinated.
