gence, wealth, and Bombay Brahmins, have chiefly accumulated, and it will
be almost a reproach to the Educational Department if they continue to
occupy the last place in future Vaccination Reports. The school-master
. ought to be able to help the vaccinator.

3.     The cost of vaccine operations, it is observed, rose from Rupees
10,973-15-9 in 1871 to Rupees 14,881-14 in the year under report. The
increase of Rupees 3,907-14-3 is attributed to more Superintendents on
higher pay and more vaccinators having been employed. The average
cost of each successful vaccine operation was 7, against 6 annas in the pre-
vious year.

4.     Mr. Saunders notes with satisfaction and will ask the Commission-
ers to convey his thanks to the patels named by you as having been con-
spicuous for the aid they have rendered in promoting vaccination. He will
also recognize in the way you suggest the services of Ajaj Hoosein, 1st class
Vaccinator, viz., by conferring on him a grant of Rupees 30. The eleven
Tehsildars whom you mark as deserving of special notice will, it is to be hoped,
arouse the emulation of those in whose tehsils the tale of vaccinations is
insufficient. It is to be regretted that there has been a falling off, as com-
pared with 1871-72, in the tehsils of Ballapoor, Khamgaon, Moortizapoor,
Julgaon. The same may be said of Mulkapoor, Akote and Oomrawuttee,

I have the honor to be,

                                                                        Sir,
                                                      Your most obedient servant,
                                                                  G. H. TREVOR,

                                                            Second Assistant Resident.
