Vaccination still more general among
other castes.

22. The number of Christians is so few that it
may be excluded from any comparisons made. The
remarks made in para. 26 of last year's report in regard to the paucity of opera-
tions among Mahomedans and Hindoos with " other castes" apply to this year also,
though to a somewhat minor extent. From what I wrote last year, which is borne
out by the figures of this year also, it may be inferred that any increase in the
proportion of operations performed on Mahomedans and Hindoos, as compared with
" other castes," may be looked upon as an index by which to judge the increasing
popularity of the department among the inhabitants.

23. The number of babies vaccinated in the
year under report is 7,406, as against 5,127 in its
predecessor. The number of births registered in the two years being in :—

24. This Statement—No. II.—shows the total
number of vaccinations performed in each month of
the year, and the percentage of successful cases. The few cases which appear
opposite to the month of April were performed in the Akolah and Buldanah dis-
tricts by two vaccinators who stayed out longer than they had any right to.
