VACCINATION REPORT OF THE HYDERABAD ASSIGNED DISTRICTS
FOR THE YEAR 1889-90.

Under the orders contained in the Resolution of the Government of India,
Home Department, No. 28—1579-95 of July 1887, a full report has been prepared
on the working of the Vaccination Department during the year 1889-90.
Vaccination establishment.
2. During the vaccination season under report the establishment re-
mained the same as during previous years and
worked up to its full strength, viz., seven native
superintendents of vaccination and forty-nine vaccinators and apprentice vacci-
nators.
Successful primary operations com-
pared since commencement of vacci-
nation.
3. The following table shows year by year the number of successful opera-
tions in primary vaccination, the rate of success
obtained, and the proportion of the population
protected since the commencement of vaccina-
tion :—

It will be seen from the above that the number of successful primary oper-
ations increased generally up to the year 1883, since when the out-turn of
work has fluctuated but little.
In 22 years a little more than half the population has been successfully vac-
cinated, and in the last decade four-fifths of the birth-rate, estimated at 40 per
1,000 of the population, has been protected, so that primary vaccination must now
of necessity fluctuate with the number of infants in the community available for
operation, and these in turn will necessarily be influenced by a prosperous
season and the absence of epidemic disease, or the reverse.

4. The season's work performed by the different vaccination staff is
compared below with that of the previous two
years: —
