It will be seen that the percentage of success, both in primary and re-vac-
cination, is lower in 1892-93 than in the previous two years. The cause of this
is due to the late rains in autumn and also to the heavy rains in January
and March.

Work by districts.

6. The table given below gives full particulars of the work performed by
the special establishment and the progress of the
work by districts for the past three years:—

There was an increase in the primary operations in the following districts:—
Ellichpur 2,513, Wun 613, Basim 1,272, and Akola 2,843.

The districts of Amraoti and Buldana each showed a decrease, the former by
1,847 and the latter 217. this large decrease in the Amraoti district is due in a
great measure to the illness of the Superintendent, who was not able to per-
form his duties, and had eventually to go on sick leave. His successor found
himself unable to cope with the work, and had to be pensioned. The head
vaccinator of Buldana was appointed Acting Superintendent in the Amraoti
district, and as the work was so much in arrears another head vaccinator was
appointed to assist him.

Under re-vaccination there is an increase in all the districts. Re-vaccination
is not popular with the people, as they do not see the necessity of repeating the
operation, and also it interferes with their daily occupations. Although not po-
pular, this great increase in re-vaccination is entirely due to the greater zeal and
tact shown by Superintendents and vaccinators in the performance of their
duties.

Results by districts.

7. The following table shows by districts the results obtained in primary
vaccination contrasted with those for the previous
two years:—
