It will be seen from the above table that Berar with a percentage of 95.8
successful primary cases takes the third place compared with the other provinces,
while it takes the first place regarding the proportion of population protected
from small-pox. Berar is also long way first regarding the average amount of
work done by each vaccinator.

Inspections.

13. The following table gives particulars of inspection work done by Super-
intendents, and shows that 50.3 per cent. of the
total number vaccinated were verified as com-
pared with 55.6 in the previous year. The percentage ranged from 42.2 in
Buldana to 57.2 in Amraoti district. Though the percentage is low in Buldana,
the actual number of primary cases verified is higher than last year. Last year
the Buldana Superintendent inspected 9,431 primary cases and this year 9,707.

                                                                              * Includes vaccination work done in famine relief camps and poor-houses.

The following table shows the number of infants in municipal towns under
one year available for vaccination and the number actually vaccinated. It will
be seen that in six municipalities there were actually more infants vaccinated
than were born and available for vaccination. This is due to the large influx of
infants from the famine-stricken districts and also into poor-houses and relief
works started within municipal limits: —
