in the number of Vaccinators is due to the employment of additional men by several
of the Local Fund Boards under the new Vaccination Rules. Of five Vaccinators
four were prosecuted by the several Local Fund Boards, and have been convicted of
falsifying returns during the year. Two of the four were prosecuted in the Trichi-
nopoly District and convicted and punished, one with fine and the other with simple
imprisonment; the third was prosecuted in the Cuddapah Circle, viz., a Second-
class Vaccinator, who was convicted and punished with a fine of Rupees 50 for a
similar crime; and the fourth, a First-class Vaccinator, was punished in the Penu-
konda Circle with a fine of Rupees 5 for rendering false accounts, and subsequently
suspended for six months by the President, Local Fund Boards; the fifth (a Second-
class Vaccinator) belonged to the Madras Collectorate, falsified his returns and
deserted: the neceessary steps have been taken to prosecute him, and the Presidency
Magistrate has issued a warrant for his apprehension. One First-class Vaccinatrix
was dismissed from the service for unsatisfactory work.

5. The casualties, &c., &c., among the staff of Vaccinators as reported by the
Deputy Inspectors comprise 30 transfers, 26 resignations, 33 dismissals, 9
desertions, and 7 deaths. Of the transfers 8 occurred in Vizagapatam, 6 in
South Arcot, 3 in Coimbatore District, 2 in each of the Madras Collectorate,
Tanjore, Madura, Bellary, Nellore, and 1 in each of the following: Trichinopoly,
North Arcot, and Salem. Of the resignations there were 6 in Coimbatore, 4 in
Cuddapah, 3 in Nellore, 2 in each of the Madras Collectorate, North Arcot,
Vizagapatam, and one in each of the following districts : South Arcot, Trichinopoly,
Madura, Salem, Kurnool, Kistna, and Jeypore Hill Tracts. Of the dismissals 12
occurred in Salem, 5 in Coimbatore, 3 in Vizagapatam, 2 in each of South Arcot,
Trichinopoly, and one in each of the following : Madras Collectorate, Tanjore,
Tinnevelly, North Arcot, Cuddapah, Bellary, Jeypore Hill Tracts, Ganjam, and
Hill Tracts of Ganjam. Of the desertions there were 6 in Coimbatore, and one
in each of the Madras Collectorate, Cuddapah, and Vizagapatam. Of the deaths
2 occurred in Jeypore Hill Tracts, 2 in Cuddapah, and one in each of the following
districts : Malabar, Bellary, and Kistna.

The Deputy Inspectors as a body worked well during the year, and gave
satisfaction in the performance of their duties. Only Rupees 20 have been exacted
from them as fines for inattention to orders and gross remissness in their work, and
Rupees 14-12-0 were recovered by this office from the Vaccinators for neglect of
duty and misconduct.

constituting the following particulars :—
